These are the two streaming devices we recommend most often to LoftyTV customers. Both handle IPTV well. The right choice comes down to how your TV is set up and how long you plan to keep the device.
Fire TV Stick 4K Max
What it is: Amazon’s top streaming stick. It plugs straight into your TV’s HDMI port and hides behind the screen.
Why people like it: Fast, compact, and familiar. Our step-by-step Fire Stick guide was written for it, and most people are up and running in five minutes.
What to know: Wi-Fi only out of the box. If your router is far away, you’ll want an Ethernet adapter. Amazon is also moving its stick lineup to Vega OS, which can’t install IPTV apps. The 4K Max you buy today runs Fire OS and works fine, but future replacements likely won’t.
onn 4K Pro (Walmart)
What it is: A small Google TV box that sits near your TV rather than hanging off the HDMI port.
Why people like it: It has a built-in Ethernet port, which is the single best fix for buffering. It runs Google TV, which currently allows the apps IPTV viewers rely on, and it includes Google Play for mainstream apps.
What to know: It needs a spot on your TV stand and its own power cable. Setup is slightly different from a Fire Stick; see our Android TV and Google TV setup guide.
Which should you buy?
- Router in the same room, or you can run a cable? The onn 4K Pro. A wired connection beats Wi-Fi every time.
- Want the simplest setup and a device that hides behind the TV? The Fire TV Stick 4K Max.
- Buying for the long haul? The onn 4K Pro, since Amazon has already said its future sticks will block IPTV apps.
Prices on both change often, so check current pricing before you buy.
