Can You Watch IPTV on a Samsung, LG, or Roku TV? Your Options Explained

Quick answer: Google TV and Android TV sets (Sony, TCL, Hisense, and others) and Fire TV Edition sets running Fire OS work much like a streaming stick. Samsung and LG TVs can run some IPTV player apps, but which ones are available changes often, and some charge their own fee. Roku and Vizio TVs are the hardest. For all of them, the most reliable route is a Fire TV Stick or onn 4K Pro plugged into the TV.

“Do I need to buy anything?” is one of the first questions new customers ask. It depends on what your TV runs. Here’s a brand-by-brand guide, with the setup we recommend for each.

First, find out what your TV runs

The brand on the front isn’t always the software inside. A TCL TV might run Google TV or Roku. An Insignia might run Fire TV or Roku. Look at the home screen when you turn the TV on:

  • A Google TV or Android TV logo or a Google Play Store means Google
  • An Amazon-style home screen with a Fire TV logo means Fire TV
  • A purple Roku home screen means Roku
  • Samsung’s software is called Tizen, and LG’s is called webOS

Google TV and Android TV sets: easiest

These TVs run the same software as Google TV streaming devices, so setup is the same: install IPTV Smarters Pro from the Play Store, or use Downloader if it isn’t listed. Follow How to Set Up LoftyTV on Android TV and Google TV. If the TV’s built-in processor is slow (common on budget sets), a separate stick may still give you a snappier experience.

Fire TV Edition TVs: usually easy

TVs with Fire TV built in work like a Fire Stick. Check Settings > My Fire TV > About and confirm it says Fire OS, then follow How to Install LoftyTV on a Fire TV Stick. If your TV runs Amazon’s newer Vega OS instead, it can’t install IPTV apps, and a streaming stick is the fix.

Samsung and LG: possible, but a stick is better

Samsung and LG don’t allow sideloading, so you’re limited to the player apps in their own app stores. Some IPTV players are available there, but:

  • Availability changes. Apps appear and disappear from these stores, and they vary by country and TV model year.
  • Many charge their own fee. Several popular smart-TV IPTV players require a separate activation fee per TV, on top of your service.
  • Features vary. Some handle the TV guide, catch-up, or the movie library less smoothly than IPTV Smarters Pro on a streaming stick.
  • Older TVs lose support. Updates stop on older model years, and apps can stop working.

If you’d still like to try the TV’s own app store, text or email us with your TV’s brand and model year and we’ll tell you what we recommend. For most people, though, a streaming stick is cheaper over time than per-TV app fees, and it works the same in every room.

Roku and Vizio: use a stick

Roku doesn’t allow apps from outside its own store, and Vizio’s SmartCast platform is similarly closed. Neither offers a practical way to run a full-featured IPTV player. The good news: you don’t need a new TV. Plug a Fire TV Stick or onn 4K Pro into an HDMI port, switch the TV’s input, and you’re set.

Which stick to get

  • Fire TV Stick 4K Max: fast, popular, and easy to set up. Avoid the Fire TV Stick 4K Select and the 2026 Fire TV Stick HD, which can’t install IPTV apps.
  • onn 4K Pro (Walmart): runs Google TV, includes an Ethernet port for a wired connection, and doubles as a smart speaker.

Try it on your phone first

Not sure yet? You don’t need any new hardware to start a LoftyTV free trial. Install IPTV Smarters Pro on your phone, tablet, or laptop and try everything there first. If you like it, connect your TVs afterward.

Frequently asked questions

Can I watch IPTV on a Samsung smart TV without a Fire Stick?

Sometimes, using a player app from Samsung’s app store. Availability changes and some apps charge their own fee. A Fire TV Stick or onn 4K Pro is the more reliable option.

Does IPTV work on Roku?

Not practically. Roku doesn’t allow the apps a full IPTV service needs. Plug a Fire TV Stick or onn 4K Pro into your Roku TV instead.

Can I cast IPTV from my phone to my TV?

Some player apps support casting, but it’s less reliable than an app running on the TV, especially for live channels. Casting works for occasional use; for everyday watching, use a stick.

Do I need a stick for every TV?

Only for TVs that can’t run the app themselves. Remember that each TV playing at the same time needs its own connection on your plan; extra screens are $5 a month each.
